HEMORRHOIDS (PILES)

DEFINATION

 Hemorrhoids also known as Piles, are swollen veins in the lower anus and rectum. They can cause localized inflammation of other tissues. Hemorrhoids cause noticeable symptoms for at least 50% of people in the United States over 50 years of age.

CAUSES

Piles can be caused by chronic constipation, chronic diarrhea, lifting heavy weights, straining when passing a stool. Pregnant women are also at risk of developing piles.

SYMPTOMS

Symptoms of piles include painful lumps in and around the anus, itching and discomfort around the anus, discomfort during and after passing stools, and bloody stools. Piles can escalate into a more severe condition such as excessive anal bleeding, possibly leading to anemia infection fecal incontinence anal fistula strangulated hemorrhoid.

PREVENTION

Avoid constipation by eating a plenty of fibers and water and avoid carbohydrates, white breads and legumes.

Treat chronic diarrhea 

Avoid lifting heavy weights and straining

TREATMENT

Treatment options for piles include lifestyle changes such as increasing fiber intake and drinking plenty of fluids to avoid constipation. Over-the-counter creams and ointments can help relieve itching and pain. In severe cases, surgery may be required.
