ANAL FISSURE
DEFINATION
An anal fissure is a small tear in the thin, moist tissue (mucosa) that lines the anus. If not healead for 8 weeks it will change to chronic anal fissure
CAUSES
An anal fissure may occur when you pass hard or large stools during a bowel movement.
SYMPTOMS
- Pain during bowel movements.
- Pain after bowel movements that can last up to several hours.
- Bright red blood on the stool or toilet paper after a bowel movement.
- A visible crack in the skin around the anus.
- A small lump or skin tag on the skin near the anal fissure.
PREVENTION
Avoid constipation by eating a plenty of fibers and water and avoid carbohydrates, white breads and legumes, treat persistant diarrhea
Avoid and treat other causes of Anal fissure
DIAGNOSIS
Medical history and a physical exam is all that’s needed to diagnose an anal fissure. Rarely Anoscopy, sigmoidscopy or Colonoscopy may be needed
TREATMENT
For acute fissures medical treatment and changing life style are sufficent
MEDICAL TREATMENT INCLUDE: Ointments containing nitroglycerine, Aneasthetic creams, Botox injection and Dilatation of the sphincter
SURGICAL TREATMENT : Excision of the fissures and or Partial Sphincterotomy
