PERIANAL FISTULA
DIFINATION
A perianal fistula, also known as an anal fistula, is a small tunnel that forms between the skin near the anus and the inside of the anal canal or rectum.
CAUSES
It typically occurs as a result of an infection in an anal gland, which can cause an abscess to develop. When the abscess doesn’t heal properly, it can lead to the formation of a fistula, which is a narrow, tubular tract that allows pus or other fluids to drain from the infected area to the skin or another part of the anal canal or rectum.
SYMPTOMS
Perianal fistulas can cause symptoms such as pain, swelling, discharge of pus or stool from the opening near the anus, and discomfort during bowel movements.
PREVENTION
It’s important to consult a healthcare professional if you suspect you have a perianal fistula or are experiencing related symptoms, as early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent complications and improve your quality of life. Treatment may include antibiotics, drainage of abscesses, and surgical intervention, depending on the individual case.
DIAGNOSIS
They are typically diagnosed through a physical examination, possibly an imaging study, and sometimes other diagnostic tests
TREATMENT
Treatment for perianal fistulas often involves surgical procedures to remove the fistula and any associated abscesses, and to prevent the recurrence of the condition. The specific surgical approach may depend on the location and complexity of the fistula.
LASER TREATMENT
Treatment with Laser achieved excellent results especially in cases associated with other chronic illness like liver diseases, renal diseases, cardiac problems, cancer
Also when general aneasthesia is not preferd or contraindicated as Laser treatment can be done with local anaesthesia
